Be a Sport! – Success

Well over 100 items were picked up and donated to specific places and clubs.

As part of our 100th birthday celebrations, the City Times launched its Be a Sport project in support of Mandela Day (July 18) and extended it to run to August 18.

The aim of the project was to collect donations of used and new sporting equipment for less fortunate clubs in Benoni and the response was overwhelming.

The City Times extends its appreciation to staff at our drop-off points for their support, Benoni Country Club, Benoni Lake Club and Benoni Northerns, and every member of these clubs and the community who made a donation.

We could not have done it without you!

Some of the clubs/organisations who benefited from the enormous amount of golf, cricket, hockey, soccer, tennis and other equipment donated include:

• Wattville and Actonville cricket clubs

• Daveyton Golf Club

• Sonop Caravan Park, in Farrarmere

• Daveyton Tennis Club

• Black Panthers Football Club, in Daveyton

• A few individual donations to less fortunate football players within the areas of Daveyton and Etwatwa were also made.

Karabo Boikhutso from Daveyton was the lucky winner of the hamper courtesy of the Benoni City Times and Harvest Table and sent through a smiling photo of himself with his prizes.

Karabo Boikhutso from Daveyton was our lucky winner of the Harvest Table Hamper and was pleased with what he had received saying;

“A huge thank you to the Harvest Table and Benoni City Times, I am so honored to be your winner.”
