Cycling community mourns death of Khoury

Many of his friends and family described Craig as having had an infectious smile and laugh.

Alphen Park resident Craig Bernard Khoury died on August 17 of a heart attack.

He died while riding his bicycle with friends and his son Bernard.

Craig matriculated from Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School in Kempton Park and began making his footprint within the East Rand.

His passion and proudest accomplishments, according to his family, were his wife, two children and four fur children, whom he loved dearly.

He also owned a bicycle shop, Bicycle Line, based in Atlasville and was involved in the cycling community.

Bernard explained his dad has left an untouchable legacy within the community and impacted hundreds of people’s lives over the years.

Many of his friends and family described Craig as having had an infectious smile and laugh and how he was always known for making every single person feel like the most important person.

Craig’s memorial ride took place on August 21, where his legacy and zest for life was celebrated.

“A perfect send-off for the perfect man,” said Bernard.

“The family extends heartfelt and special thanks to all who attended the ride, brought flowers, made banners, brought food and/or visited during this difficult time.

“There will be no funeral service, but we ask instead to support Craig’s favourite animal shelter, TAG (The Animal Guardians in Benoni), in his legacy, celebrating his love and passion for his four Maltese dogs.”

Christie, Craig’s daughter, said:

“Our legend, our captain, our hero, and our heart. We salute you and thank you for everything. No words could express the love we will forever have for you and how shattered we are to have lost you.

“You don’t just get the dad of the year award, you get the dad of the world award. You will always be our king of all kings.”

Craig is remembered by his wife, Luhanie, his children and his mother, Imelda.

“What an amazing 35 years we had together. I am beyond blessed and honoured to have known you and been your wife. I will love you forever and always,” said Luhanie, Craig’s wife.
