Locals impress at recent badminton competition

South Africa won three out of the five events that took place and were the runners up for one.

The following are the final results for the South African Badminton team who competed recently in the Benin International Future Series 2021 in Benin.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton team (EGBA) practice at their home ground in Benoni at the John Barrabel Hall, and quite a few of the EGBA players made the South African team.

South Africa won three out of the five events and were the runners up for one.

Results were as follows:

• Women’s singles: Nita Scholtz (FS) won against Deidre Jordaan (EGBA) – South Africa won

• Men’s doubles: Habeeb Bello/Gideon Babalola (Nigeria) won against Daniel Steyn (FS)/Bongani von Bodenstein (EGBA) – Nigeria won, South Africa runners up.

• Women’s doubles: Deidre Jordaan (EGBA)/Demi Botha(KZN) won against Amy Ackerman (EGBA)/Diane Olivier (NC) – South Africa won

• Mixed doubles: Jarred Elliott (EGBA)/Deidre Jordaan(EGBA) won against Cameron Coetzer (Border)/Amy Ackerman(EGBA) – South Africa won

South Africa also won bronze in:

Mens singles: Ruan Snyman (EGBA) and Robert White (EGBA)

Mens doubles: Cameron Coetzer (Border)/Jarred Elliott (EGBA)

Mixed doubles: Robert White (EGBA)/ Diane’ Olivier (NC)
