BFS educates little ones through toys

WO Grant Giblin and Sgt Lindi Dladla took the honor of delivering the toy box with little packages containing sweets, chips and cold drinks for the children.

Having a box of toys usually means little ones are going to have a great time.

So officers from the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) chose to give a box of toys to children at iKhaya Da Luz to educate them while letting them have fun.

“A member of the public requested if they could visit a children’s home to donate a constructed Lego toy box containing police-related toys,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“iKhaya Da Luz in Pitts Road, Benoni, was duly identified. They house 12 children from different backgrounds with the aim of providing a safe haven and foster home for them,” said Giblin.

With some preparation, the toy box was ready for delivery on August 13.

Giblin and Sgt Lindi Dladla took the honor of delivering the toy box with little packages containing sweets, chips and cooldrinks for the children.

They were greeted by Ana Pinto le Roux (director), two teenagers and five-year-olds while the other children were attending school.

“The [toy box] has a police car, police helicopter and two police bikes with some toy police officers. The bikes move left and right with a lever in front of the box and when a button is turned the chopper blades rotate and blue and white lights also flash inside the box,” Giblin explained.

“The box was donated by a Samaritan who thought that rather than selling it, giving it to children who would appreciate it would be a lot more rewarding.”
