Female officers stand together against crime in Actonville

The officers also handed out pamphlets and educated the community on gender-based violence and domestic violence.

In the spirit of Women’s Month, female police officers conducted a crime prevention operation under the name Basadi (meaning women in Sotho).

The Actonville SAPS, together with the EMPD led by the station commander Col Elsie Mashinini, conducted a roadblock on Reading Road and Dube Street on August 13.

During the six-hour operation, four men were arrested, two for being in possession of drugs and two for being possession of suspected stolen goods.

A total of 96 motor vehicles and 113 people were searched and 15 traffic fines were issued.

The officers also handed out pamphlets and educated the community on gender-based violence and domestic violence.

Spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the purpose of the operation was to make an impact on the community during Women’s Month.

Those arrested were detained at the Actonville Police Station and will appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
