The Putfontein police are investigating a case of arson and domestic violence after a 30-year-old man allegedly set his girlfriend’s shack on fire in Zwakala squatter camp, near Mayfield Extension Six, on August 8.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi explained the victim told police she argued with her boyfriend in Chris Hani Extension One in Daveyton.

“She then went to a tuck shop and when she returned the boyfriend wasn’t there. The woman went to her home in Zwakala squatter camp and found her boyfriend. He apparently argued with her and also assaulted her,” said Ubisi.

“The victim ran to a neighbour to seek help. While hiding, they saw her shack being engulfed in flames.”

According to the woman, she confronted her boyfriend and he boasted about what he had done before running off.

Community members helped extinguish the fire but the damage was extensive and the woman lost everything in the blaze.

A case of arson and domestic violence was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.

Police are searching for the suspect.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the station on 011 845 6300, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MYSAPS app.
