Ekurhuleni serial rapist case postponed to September

The accused has abandoned his bail application.

The Ekurhuleni serial rapist case has been postponed to September 28 for the High Court indictment.

The case is set to then resume in the high court.

The 37-year-old accused made a brief appearance in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on July 27 and remains in police custody.

He has been charged with 61 counts of rape, two counts of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery.

Some of the rape cases date back to 2012, with the most recent case being July 2020.

The police were searching for the suspect for nearly nine years by the time he was arrested in Barcelona, Etwatwa, on March 17.

The accused abandoned his bail application.
