Donate used/new sports equipment to our Be a Sport project

If your sports club wants to benefit from our collection of sports equipment contact Jemma at jemmap@caxton.co.za

The City Times is excited to launch its 67 Minutes for Mandela Day project, which we have named Be a Sport!

This initiative aims to collect used and new sporting equipment for less fortunate clubs in Benoni.

Sport has been impacted as a whole due to the lockdowns and strict protocols, but there are many clubs out there that had been struggling well before the lockdowns hit the country and these clubs need your help.

Donations open on July 16 and the project runs until August 18.

We will go through all items received and distribute them to each sports club based on their wish lists, as far as possible.

Find a BCT donation box here:

• Benoni Northerns Sports Club, 1 Brodigan Street, Northmead

• Benoni Country Club, Morris Avenue, Morehill

• Benoni Lake Club, Corner Edward and Divot Street, Benoni

To keep the boxes from becoming too full and the donations safe, each week a representative from the City Times will collect the donations for secure storage until we hand them over to the clubs.

Here are some ideas of what the clubs could use:

• Cricket: batting pads, thigh pads, abdominal guard, chest guard, cricket bat, batting gloves, elbow guard, helmet, wickets, cricket balls etc.

• Football: shin guards, water bottles, soccer balls, plastic goalposts, cones, etc.

• Golf: balls, golf clubs, ball markers, tees, golf bag, towels, club head covers, etc.

• Coaches: whistles.

Apart from the above, ANY and ALL donations of sporting equipment and kit – previously loved or new – are welcomed and will be put to good use!

If you are donating pairs of socks or other clothing items, kindly donate enough for a team (cricket – 11 players, for example).

Send us your wish list

If you are a Benoni sports club or team which needs help and can benefit from our collection of used and new sporting equipment, email the name of your club, a contact person and contact details, along with your wish list to jemmap@caxton.co.za before August 18.
