The Lakefield Sporting Club (LSC): Academy of Sport recently hosted a Cricket Coaching Clinic and Action Cricket Mini-Tournament at its Astroplex facility at the Benoni Lake Club Golf Course.
The event was attended by 40 children, ranging from ages 7 to 13, with the coaching being facilitated by Astroplex sporting director Mark Naik (level two coach and former Easterns Cricket senior pro) and Mekyle Pillay (Easterns Cricket senior-level semi-pro).
“In addition to the coaching, the future stars of the game played a series of competitive matches to showcase the new skills and techniques they had just learnt,” said LSC Astroplex chairperson Abdul Rehman Sibda.
“Some of the teams that attended included the Tasmanian Devils, Benoni Bats Indoor Action Cricket Team, Actonville Spurs CC and LSC Astroplex.”
Sibda was ecstatic about the great enthusiasm and prodigious talent displayed by the youngsters who participated.
“More events of this nature are in the pipeline,” he added, “to correctly develop promising young cricket players to take the step up to provincial, national and international levels.”
In addition to the coaching clinics and mini-tournaments, Astroplex has established an Action Cricket League which will be open to all ages, genders and corporates.
