Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora inducts 30th president of the club

Outgoing president Sonja Shear thanked the members of the club and the board for supporting her over the past two years.

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora inducted Yegalan Chetty as the 30th incoming president of the club on June 23.

This was done through a virtual celebration due to the increase of Covid-19 infections in Gauteng.

Outgoing president Sonja Shear thanked the members of the club and the board for supporting her over the past two years.

“It has been a difficult year for many, and I am grateful that we still managed to raise funds and make a difference in our local community,” said Shear.

Chetty thanked the club for entrusting him in the role of president.

“To be a Rotarian is to be actively involved in the affairs and service projects of ones’ club. Rotarians demonstrate the strength of their commitment to Rotary in the service they render to their club, through their club to the community, and through the Rotary foundation to people throughout the world,” said Chetty.

He stated that he endeavoured to practice this ethos and requested the support of all club members stating a club is only as strong as its members.

Keanan van Moerkerken was re-inducted as the Rotaract president after serving in this role for the past year.

“We plan to make a greater impact in the year ahead,” said van Moerkerken.

Angela Norris, immediate past district governor Ann, will be taking on the role of Ann’s president for the first three months of the Rotary year.

Butch Wilson, the club’s charter president who is still an active member of the club, was present for the celebrations.

He stated that he was confident that it would be a very successful year for the Rotary, Rotary Anns, and Rotaract clubs.
