Daveyton woman gives back on her birthday

Busi said you don’t have to be a billionaire to inspire change.

Daveyton resident Busi Mphuthi celebrated her 39th birthday by sharing the little she has with the residents of Qalabusha informal settlement on June 5.

The birthday girl, with the help of her friends and family, provided a warm meal to about 800 residents from 07:00.

Busi said when you reach a certain age or a certain stage in your life’s journey, you get a different perspective on how you see or view life. You realise being self-centred gives you no joy and that forces you to change completely.

“In all my birthdays it has always been about me. This year I didn’t want a cake or handbag or dinner for two, I wanted to share my day with people in need,” she said.

“This was to bring back hope to people and be that change that I’ve always wanted. I asked my friends and family to partake in this venture and little did I know that most of them were longing to lend a helping hand to others.”

She added that her birthday taught her that if we work together, we can make the world a better place for everyone.

“No matter how small the effort is, it can make a difference. You don’t have to be a billionaire to inspire change.

We can all help end homelessness and poverty in our own little ways.”
