Pitties at Gudwulfs need food, warmth to get them through winter

The co-founders are specifically asking for help for the 25 kennel dogs.

NPC Gudwulfs Pit Bull Rescue’s co-founders Chantelle van Zyl and Dani Boylan are yet again pleading with members of the community to open their hearts towards helping the 55 dogs in their care.

“It is really cold and it is only the start of June. Our dogs in kennels are taking strain and we desperately need help. Dogs lose weight when it is cold, as they shiver just like us humans and they move around a lot to keep warm,” Chantelle said.

“We have to fatten the dogs up as much as possible as it helps a bit with coping with cold weather. While some bone meal is fine, too much is not good as it is an overload of calcium.”

The dogs are looked after at two facilities, one in Marister and the other in Fairleads.

“We have 25 dogs in Fairleads and 31 in Marister,” Chantelle explained.

In a Facebook post pleading for help, the co-founders asked for the following:
• Fatty meat (but not stale)
• Eggs
• Rice
• Broccoli
• Sweet potatoes
• Butternut

They are specifically asking for help for the 25 kennel dogs as these need more assistance than the other 31.

The organisation will also welcome donations of secondhand hoodies or long-sleeved tops for children aged 10, 11 and 12 as these fit pit bull terriers perfectly and can be used as jerseys to keep them warm.

“Most of the dogs rip the clothing off, but we don’t mind picking up bits of material and re-dressing them again,” said Chantelle.

Gudwulfs Pit Bull Rescue was originally founded in 2010 but became an official NPC in 2016.
