Basketball shooting contest a great success

According to Murerwa, the benefits of such contests as this one is to help players understand the amount of time they need to put in to improve both their shooting skills (muscle memory), endurance and fitness.

Recently, the Aelen Management Basketball Academy, based in Ampthill Ave, hosted a basketball shooting contest at St Dunstan’s.

“The three-point full court shooting contest, a first of its kind in South Africa, turned out to be a great success,” said Michael Murerwa, sports development coordinator at Aelen Management.

“Players/shooters showcased their shooting ability under one minute and 10 seconds, with players having to shoot five balls from the three-point arc, run across to the other half and shoot another 10 balls before running back to shoot the last five balls.”

 

According to Murerwa, the benefits of such contests as this one is to help players understand the amount of time they need to put in to improve both their shooting skills (muscle memory), endurance and fitness.

“The juniors who took part in this event were motivated and encouraged by the seniors every time they were in the court,” said Murerwa

“The seniors showed true leadership and were role models to the juniors.”

The winner of the shooting contest was Thabo Gumede who took home R2 500 sponsored by Dadas Motorland.

“We would like to thank St Dunstans College for allowing Aelen Management to use their amazing sports facilities, you have played a very important role in promoting physical activities and participating in leisure sports activities and also to our sponsor Dadas Motorland for sponsoring the first-place prize money and providing luxury vehicles that helped with enhancing the performance of players who took pictures next to the likes of BMW M4 2021, BMW M2 2019, Mercedes G63 Brabus 2019 and Viano V300.

“We look forward to hosting more events soon.”
