MMC Nomadlozi Nkosi hosts IDP meeting in Actonville

The IDP's needs are identified during reviews that were held in September 2020.

The Ekurhuleni metro hosted its Integrated Development and Planning (IDP) and Budget consultative meeting with residents on April 15 at the Actonville Community Centre with the MMC for health and social services, Nomadlozi Nkosi.

The IDP is a document that outlines the strategic objectives of the municipalities and contains a development plan, which covers five years.

It includes the planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and decision-making processes, and feedback to the communities and relevant stakeholders.

According to the legislation, the IDP and budget are required to be taken through a public participation process.

Nkosi highlighted the key programmes of the metro, which included the mayoral priorities, strategic urban developments and the metro’s, as well as their service delivery achievements.

The metro is looking into increasing the tariff of the following services:

Main tariff:

• Sanitation domestic (eight per cent) industrial (17 per cent)

• Water (eight per cent)

• Energy (between 14.59 per cent and 17 per cent)

• Refuse removal (seven per cent).

Sundry tariff:

• Cemetery and Crematoria (10 per cent)

• Building plans (four per cent)

• Sports and Recreation fees (4.5 per cent)

• Hire of Park Facilities (4.1 per cent)

• Municipal Bus Service (4.15 per cent).

During her presentation, she added that the collection rate in Benoni has increased from 90.41 per cent in June 2020 to 96.19 in March 2021.

A detailed capital project for the year 2021/22 draft in Benoni is as follows:

EMPD

• For the construction of the Benoni precinct in Ward 27 (R10-million)

Energy

• Benoni Network enhancement in Wards 110, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 71, 72, and 73 (R2.4-m)

• Crystal Park substation in Ward 24 (R15-m)

• Benoni lighting in Wards 110, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 71, 72, and 73 (R300 000)

• Benoni Revenue enhancement in Wards 110, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 71, 72, and 73 (R2-m)

Environmental resources and waste management

• Upgrade and construction facilities in ward 73 (R7-m)

• Northmead mini-garden disposal site in Ward 73 (R1-m)

Human settlements

• Apex Ext 12 in Wards 29 and 30 (R20-m)

• Wattville Public Space upgrade in Wards 29 and 30 (R2.7-m)

• Chief Albert Luthuli Ext four in Ward 29 (R25-m)

Road and stormwater

• Pretoria Road upgrading in Wards 24 and 27 (R5-m)

• Reconstruction of Patten Road in Ward 24 (R2.3-m)

• Bridge at Chief Albert Luthuli in Ward 110 (R2.8-m)

Transport planning and provision

• Workshop refurbishment in Ward 73 (R433 000)

Water and sanitation

• Emergency services to informal settlements to Ward 73 (R2-m).
