Tennis tournament begins

Dundee Tefo Radebe, a qualified, accredited independent tennis coach and tournament director, residing in Daveyton, started up this tournament to show people that tennis has not died down and are making a comeback.

The DTR Junior-Senior Open tennis tournament is officially on the rise.

Registrations are open for the upcoming tournaments to be held until the end of the year, all taking place at the Northmead Bowling Club in Benoni.

Dundee Tefo Radebe, a qualified, accredited independent tennis coach and tournament director residing in Daveyton, started this tournament to show people that tennis has not died.

“As a tennis coach I have a right and duty to keep tennis alive within our province,” he said.

“This tournament is meant for all tennis players or tennis lovers, who need to improve their tennis play or skills and even players who just want to play for fun.

“It is a practice tournament for sanctioned tournaments to players who are currently playing sanctioned or preparing beginner players to be familiar with tournament environment.

“Prizes are up for grabs.”

Players who participate in these tournaments are not only from Benoni but Gauteng East (Ekurhuleni) and other neighbouring tennis provinces like Gauteng Central (Johannesburg) and Gauteng North (Tshwane), most participants being from Benoni as it is a host.

“The name of my tennis team that will be entering the tournament is DTRTC (Dundee Tefo Radebe Tennis College) but other coaches use the name Academy,” he said.

“According to Covid regulations no spectators will be allowed until it is later changed and announced.

”Pricing is for all tournaments:

• Juniors 7 – 17: R100

• Seniors 18 – 35+: R150

Tournaments will take place on the following days:

• April 24 and 25

• May 29 and 30

• June 26 and 27

• July 24 and 25

• August 21 and 22

• September 18 and 19

• October 23 and 24

• November 27 and 28

• December 11 and 12.

Registrations are now open and will close on April 20, no later entries will be accepted.
