Putfontein NPO needs help to rebuild their kitchen

The Samukelo Esihle Community Project in Putfontein seeks assistance from the community to help them rebuild their kitchen after it was vandalised by criminals recently.

Seventy elderly members of this NPO meet three days a week at a local church in Mayfield Extension One and Six, where they participate in Bible studies, exercise, and handcrafts.

Samukelo Tshabalala, the founder of the project, said it was so painful to find their kitchen vandalised especially when they are trying so hard to assist those who are in need in the community.

“The incident occurred early this year and the alleged criminals gained entry by cutting the corrugated iron sheets.

The kitchen was used to prepare breakfast for the grannies so they can be able to take their medication in the morning,” said Tshabalala.

“Now, the grannies have to take their medication on an empty stomach because they have no food at home unless we give them food parcels that are donated to us.”

Tshabalala said due to the pandemic they haven’t received any food parcel donations as yet and most of the family members that reside with the grannies are now unemployed.

“We would appreciate anyone who can help us build the kitchen with concrete panels so that the robbers cannot break in,” she said.

“What breaks my heart is that we doing our best to help the very same community that steals from us without even thinking how their doings will affect the elderly.”

The Mayfield resident said she would like to provide the elderly with a meal at least three times a day.

“We would appreciate any local businesses that can donate food parcels or food donations so we can cook daily meals for those who are in need,” she said.

Anyone who would like to donate may contact Tshabalala on 083 404 8560.
