Couple celebrates 65th wedding anniversary

Ronnie has been an avid marathon runner and has completed 17 Comrades while Ester was a member of the Women’s Shooting Club in Benoni and has won many awards for combat and target shooting.

Ronnie and Ester Jankelowitz celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently.

However, due to Covid-19, this had been the first year that they were unable to kiss each other.

Ronnie explained that every year for their anniversary he was able to kiss his wife to wish her a happy anniversary, yet the pandemic has halted such a blissful tradition.

The couple met at the age of 15 as they were both born in Benoni.

Ronnie said that “it was love at first sight” the day his late sister brought Ester to their house.

Since their union, the couple has raised three children and is grandparents to four grandchildren.

Ronnie has been an avid marathon runner and has completed 17 Comrades while Ester was a member of the Women’s Shooting Club in Benoni and has won many awards for combat and target shooting.

The children have taken interest in Ester’s hobbies and are all trained in Skeet, combat, and target shooting.

The duo, who are over the age of 80, keep busy by running the Benoni Farmers Supply – a business that was started by Ronnie’s father over 100 years ago.
