Local handpicked by CSA

Landsman offered up some advice to up-and-coming cricketers, to always work hard. It’s the only way to achieve what you want.

Madison Landsman (16), a Rynfield resident, was recently chosen to be a part of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) women’s team which played in the CSA Women’s T20 Super League.

The matches took place between December 14 and 16, and the City Times caught up with the youngster beforehand.

“We were monitored by CSA while we played in our provincial league,” she explained.

“CSA used our stats to select the players who stood out to get in the possible mix with the current Proteas team.

“I will play for the Coronations for this tournament and then CSA will re-select teams for the next tournament, to be held in March at Wanderers.”

Landsman is very proud of her achievement and couldn’t wait to get started. “It means a great deal to me.

“It is going to be such a privilege to play among these players and at Newlands, in Cape Town, which is by far my favourite cricket ground in the world,” she explained.

Landsman hopes to see herself playing for the Proteas in the next five years.

“My biggest dream is to represent and captain South Africa to a World Cup win.”

Landsman takes a lot of her techniques and thought processes from some of her idols.

“Laura Wolvaardt, Dané van Niekerk, Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry are some of the greatest in the game.

“They work hard and are the best at what they do, which is why I look up to them,” she said.

“I’m very thankful to my parents and sister for their ongoing support.

“The amount of time my parents have put in to taking me to many practices, as well as driving across provinces without hesitation when I have a match to support me is incredible.

“I will forever be grateful for them and for how lucky I am.

“If I could offer some advice to up-and-coming cricketers it would be to always work hard. It’s the only way to achieve what you want.

“I’m still a long way from achieving my main goals, but I know the only way I will is if I put in the work and believe in myself,” Landsman concluded.
