Pauline Davis Court residents can now take a lift to the next floor

The newly installed lifts come with a generator to ensure the lifts are still operational during power outages.

Residents from Pauline Davis Court in Benoni have had a weight lifted off their shoulders after the MMC for Human Settlements, Lesiba Mpya, with Ward 73 councillor Sinethemba Matiwane, officially unveiled new lifts for the building on November 27.

Mpya explained to the residents he was there for an oversite visit to ensure the lifts are fully operational, adding that Pauline Davis Court is home to the elderly and disabled and the lifts could not have come at a better time.

“Moving forward, we intend to ensure people are given the dignity they deserve and ensure their living conditions are habitable,” he said.

Resident Ranie Pather said she was happy and grateful the lifts are now operational and it would be easier to move to different floors.

Matiwane said he was happy the lifts are now in operation, and as a result more people can occupy the vacant flats on the higher levels.

He added that the main issue of getting residents down when they fall ill or when paramedics have to get to the higher floor to move patients will be solved.

The lifts at the court had been non-operational for over six years.
