“She brings to the community a lifetime of service in Benoni CPF, Benoni Child welfare and a myriad of other local structures. Goby served as councillor until 2016 and then left the DA.

“It is a decision I have been thinking about for a while and recently as the party has undergone changes, I was encouraged,” Goby said.

“I took up membership of the DA again in September 2020, but I had been having conversations with several members of the DA in Ekurhuleni, and I felt the time was right.”

According to Goby, the DA is back on track and has firmly confirmed that it is the party of non-racialism.

“It is no longer ‘wobbly blue jelly’ – it wants to ensure that its values are reflected in law and policy,” she added.

“I have always been DA at heart, and now that they are, once again, clear as to what they stand for, I am comfortable in asking people to support them.”

When asked if she is prepared to be a ward councillor again, Goby said: “If the DA chooses me to serve our residents once more, I will be willing and able to do so.”

She reiterated her contribution to society as being a positive one.

“People can expect from me what I’ve always offered – responsiveness, availability, transparency, accountability and a deep commitment to Benoni.

“I’ve proven this both within and outside politics.”

Despite her stepping down as a DA member, Goby did not step down from service delivery.

“I have been working closely with the community on projects such as food relief during Covid-19, poverty-alleviation projects, as well as working with Benoni CPF, Benoni Child Welfare and our local business community.

“I’ve been working hard to resolve community issues with the council and ensure that our town has a champion for improvement and development.”

Community saddened by Goby’s departure
