St Columba’s launches revolutionary education model

St Columba’s remains determined to provide quality education to the children of Benoni and beyond

Covid-19 has affected every industry and none more so than the education system with schools, teachers, learners and parents having to suddenly adapt to online schooling.

Out of the chaos, however, has risen a revolutionary education model led by Benoni’s very own 111-year-old St Columba’s Catholic School.

Principal Bronwen Marcon explained the first-of-its-kind blended education model provides learners with the opportunity to learn online in small classes with a dedicated online teacher and then to attend assessments, exams, sport and culture practices and community and social events at the St Columba’s school.

“The benefit of St Columba’s Online lies in acknowledging that children learn differently. This model will accommodate children who need less distraction during learning time to achieve their goals,” said Marcon.

“The model also allows for the child to feel less anxiety academically and socially by working in their own environment. “The children also benefit from the social side in a relaxed environment by participating in the sporting, cultural and community activities offered by the school if they so wish.

“Families are part of an established, trusted environment based on a warm and inviting Catholic ethos.”

This is not the first time St Columba’s has adjusted to challenging social circumstances to ensure learners’ education needs are taken care of.

“Having endured great social and political pressures at its inception and throughout the trials of World War I and II as well as through apartheid, St Columba’s remains determined to provide quality education to the children of Benoni and beyond,” Marcon said.
