Residents urged to become foster parents

A family environment fosters healthy growth and brain development by providing a child with love

With thousands of children in need of foster care, the Department of Social Development in Benoni is calling on the community to assist them with the children in need of care and protection.

Social worker Mmathapelo Molekane said no child wishes to grow up in a children’s homes or an institution; every child needs to grow up in a family environment.

“A family environment fosters healthy growth and brain development by providing a child with love, emotional support and opportunities for learning and exploring new developments,” said Molekane.

“It is important for the communities to assist the children in need of care and protection to create stability and security in these children’s lives, so that the children may grow up with confidence and motivation to lead healthy families.”

The department is appealing to residents with a passion to care and protect vulnerable children, especially children from the following areas: Bredell, Putfontein, Petit, Hillcrest, Small Farm, Farramere, Northmead, Rynfield, and Morehill to come forward.
