The 100% Foundation helps SANBS

Due to the pandemic and lockdown, SANBS has started to see a decline in their blood stocks.

Rynfield NGO The 100% Foundation hosted a blood drive on September 18 at Affinity Health to assist the Northmead SANBS as they need more donations.

The 100% Foundation was founded by Zina Rotherham, Hannalie Botha and Mandy Cronje.

“We support communities mainly in the East Rand with nutrition, educational resources and various other community projects,” explained Janap Biemba, senior development project coordinator of The 100% Foundation.

SANBS needs your ‘bloody’ commitment

Due to the pandemic and lockdown, SANBS has started to see a decline in their blood stocks.

“As their loyal supporter since 2017, The 100% Foundation hosted a blood donor day at the Affinity Health offices,” Biemba explained.

Siphiwe Mahlangu, development and project coordinator of The 100% Foundation, said:

“We do a blood drive every three months and the last time we hosted a blood drive, our target was 42 units of blood; we ended up with 46 units.

“My reason for being a part of The 100% Foundation is because my father died of kidney failure; he was on the waiting list forever. I felt like I needed to do something to give back.

“There are people out there who need blood, what if they are on a waiting list? What will happen to them?”

Another development and project coordinator of The 100% Foundation, Siziwe Mngomezulu, said:

“This was the first time we allowed the community to get involved. Usually, we only do it for the staff of Affinity Health but we get high volumes here. That’s why we always host the blood drive here.”

The 100% Foundation team consists of the three members, Biemba, Mngomezulu and Mahlangu.

“We rely on the support of the Affinity Health staff members to make the blood donation drive successful and meaningful due to us only being three members on site. They have always been fantastic,” said Biemba.

A target was set for the day at 22 units of blood, but with all the hard work and dedication put in, a total of 34 units was collected and handed over to SANBS Northmead.
