Young couple says ‘I do’ with the help of generous donors

Over 30 guests were invited to attend their wedding and the lucky couple were given a two-night stay in the honeymoon suite at the Marechelle Country Estate.

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” – Vincent van Gogh.

These words couldn’t be more true when it came to the union of Armoné Bezuidenhout and Dewald Basson on September 5 at Jerry’s Café in Rynfield.

The young couple, who live in Pomona, have been together for four years and always wanted to get married.

However, due to financial constraints it had not been possible until Armoné met Carike Pretorious.

Carike is part of an NPO called Under His Covering that assists women who are in need. The two met in an informal settlement in Pomona where Armoné had previously stayed but had to move as they were unable to continue paying rent.

Armoné had informed Carike that they had to move; however, she would only be allowed to stay with Dewald in their new place of residence if they were married and that is when Carike stepped in with the help of generous donors from Benoni and Kempton Park to plan a wedding in under a week.

The City Times spoke to the bride before her wedding day:

How did you meet?

We met in Kempton Park right in front of DESCO where he worked, and the first time I saw him I told my friend that I was going to marry him.

How did he propose?

I was upset lying in bed and I asked him never to leave me and that was when he asked me to be his wife.

How do you feel now about the wedding?

I feel like it is a dream come true as I am marrying my best friend.

My life hasn’t been easy as I am 80 per cent deaf in one ear but being with him has made everything better.

We don’t have much but he makes sure that I get what I want whenever he can and has made so many sacrifices to make sure that I am happy.

How do you deal with conflict?

We don’t really fight a lot, we might have small quarrels from time to time and he will apologise first.

He is a big softie and I call him my teddy because he may look big but he has a good heart.

What are you looking forward to most?

Being his wife and having all the people who love me around to celebrate.

Over 30 guests were invited to attend their wedding and the lucky couple were given a two-night stay in the honeymoon suite at the Marechelle Country Estate.

Armoné plans on going back to school and to also get involved in charity work as she had been inspired by the people that have shown her kindness.

The couple would like to thank the following people for making everything possible:

Wedding vibe for the wedding dress and bridesmaids’ dresses, Daphne du Plessis, Marinda Marais, Linda Marais, Phillip and Stef Wydeman, Jerry’s Café, Leanne Spies, Adele Krizek, Deon Swart, Carla Prinsloo, Carike Pretorious,Lootie and Pieter Koen, Daniel o Niel, Luigi Airago, Susan Myburg, Stephan Snydier, Lindie Burrel, Chanika Viljoen, Malcolm Troullip and Milana Undenberg
