Metro says Lindelani waste is being removed despite residents saying otherwise

He added that residents can report lack of refuse collection to the area manager, Sello Mojela, on 011 999 6825 or at the office at 4 Golden Drive, Morehill.

Residents of Lindelani informal settlement have raised their concerns and frustrations over the lack of service delivery since the start of lockdown.

Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, Ekurhuleni DA PR councillor, said frustrated residents contacted him, requesting assistance to have their overflowing dustbins and refuse not being removed.

“They said the metro has offered no explanation for the lack of service delivery.

“There has been about four months of no refuse removal and residents have now started dumping illegally in open spaces, which is beginning to pose a serious health risk to the community and the environment.”

The metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said they accept and acknowledge receipt of the query.

“However, our records reflect this area has been receiving refuse services on a weekly basis, consecutively on Mondays, without delay.

“We will continue to monitor and conduct post collection inspections in the area.”

He added that residents can report lack of refuse collection to the area manager, Sello Mojela, on 011 999 6825 or at the office at 4 Golden Drive, Morehill.

Gadebe also cautioned residents against illegal dumping as per municipal by-laws.

“Any person who contravenes the provisions of the by-laws shall be guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding R2 000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 24 months or to both, as well be liable for the tariff charge in respect of such removal and disposal,” he concluded.
