Show ubuntu by donating sanitary pads

The club has also rebuilt a shack for an 82-year-old in Daveyton during level five lockdown.

A local community development club is looking for donations of sanitary pads and toiletries to be given to 150 girls from Sazakhela Primary School in Barcelona, Etwatwa.

The club, the Ubuntu Social Club, was formed in March, after lockdown was implemented to lend a helping hand to those in need in Daveyton and Etwatwa.

The chairperson of the club, Itireleng Sepula, explained ubuntu means humanity, hence they decided to start the club to give back.

“We saw a number of people needing food. Poverty was evident on a large scale, so we took it upon ourselves to at least try to help where we can with the minimal resources we had,” said Sepula.

“Ubuntu is a group of seven dedicated individuals who come together for the common goal of making a difference in the lives of the youth and elderly in the community of Daveyton and Etwatwa.”

Sepula said the club is all about uplifting the community, focusing on youth empowerment and helping the elderly who may be in need.

He explained that they have a monthly feeding scheme in partnership with Infinite Ladies Social Club.

“We visit a certain area once a month and feed all the children, elderly people and families in need because we believe charity begins at home.

“We also provide groceries to four homes each month,” he said.

The club has also rebuilt a shack for an 82-year-old in Daveyton during level five lockdown.

“The shack she lived in was depleted and her living conditions not accommodating, so we decided to build a new shack for her.

“We have an ongoing school shoe drive, where we go out and find children who are in need of a new pair of shoes, and we buy them a new pair with socks or a full uniform.

“We would appreciate support and donations from the community.”
