Suspect arrested minutes after a woman is stabbed in Snake Road

He made his first appearance in court on September 2 and he was remanded in custody.

The 32-year-old suspect arrested for robbery with aggravating circumstances in connection with an incident in Snake Road will reappear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing on September 8.

He made his first appearance on September 2 and he was remanded in custody.

The suspect was arrested shortly after he and an accomplice stabbed and robbed a 46-year-old woman on August 29 in Snake Road.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the woman had stopped to fix her wipers and then got back into her car.

“Two men appeared behind her car. One of them was armed with a knife and they opened the driver’s door and threatened her,” said Sekele.

“The suspect with the knife demanded money and stabbed the woman in her lower body before they both fled on foot.”

Sekele said as the robbers were running away, the woman saw a police vehicle and screamed for help.

“The officers stopped, she told them what happened and they chased after the two men, who had run into a nearby veld,” she said.

The officers were able to arrest one of the suspects.
