The Dojo reopens

The training session was held at Arrowe Park, at Homestead Dam, where they could be out of an enclosed area.

The Dojo, based in Rynfield, has recently reopened.

According to sensei John Barnett (8th Dan black belt), training is going well.

“Masks, safe distancing and all the Covid-19 government regulations are strictly followed,” said John.

During their first lesson after lockdown, the sense introduced Hashimoto-on-a-stick (a wooden pole with a boxing glove attached).

“This was used to teach students from a distance, and I must say their blocking improved immediately,” explained John.

The training session was held at Arrowe Park, at Homestead Dam, where they could be out of an enclosed area.

This allowed for more social distancing.

“What a beautiful city we have,” said John, “and to be out in the open doing again what we love was just fantastic.”

Assisting the training and helping with the formalities were Sensei Takis, Janien, and Louis (6th Dans).

“The whole karate fraternity are anxiously awaiting restrictions to be lifted fully so we can all get back to some sort of normality and regular classes,” concluded John.
