Mom kills herself after partying while her children die in shack fire
The three young children were left at home alone all night while the mom was in a shebeen
A Ramaphosa informal settlement mother who left her three young children alone in a shack while she went to a shebeen all night is suspected to have electrocuted herself near their shack after finding out two of her children had burnt to death when the shack caught alight in the early hours of this morning (August 22).
The deceased children were girls aged two and six. Their bodies were found under the rubble. Their older brother (8) managed to escape but sustained severe burns and was taken to hospital.
According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services (DEMS), firefighters from Boksburg Central Fire Station received the alarm at 5:27am this morning and swiftly responded to the scene.
“On arrival, the crew found members of the community frantically trying to extinguish the blaze with buckets of water. Firefighters took over and managed to extinguish the blaze,” Ntladi said.
“Following information received on the scene, a search was conducted and the charred bodies of the two female children were found under the rubble. Their brother survived after managing to escape through the door. He sustained intense facial, neck, head, leg and arm burns.
“He was transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care. “It is alleged the children were left alone over night inside the shack. According to the information on scene, some members of the community had to look for the mother, who was eventually found in a shebeen nearby.
“She was overwhelmed by the scene on arrival at the home and disappeared shortly afterwards. No one knew where she went. At around 8am, her body was found about sixty metres away from their shack by members of the community. Paramedics declared her dead on the scene.”
According to Reiger Park Police, the mother was found dead on top of electric cables. The scene was handed over to the police for further investigations and forensic pathology officials for the removal of the bodies to an appropriate facility.
