#SaveRhinos: Enter Insimbi’s virtual run
All racers will also receive a virtual medal and certificate
Time is running out for avid runners and community members to participate in Insimbi Lecgacy Projects’ Run For a Cause virtual race #series2 in support of rhino conservation.
The race can be completed up until August 31 and the registration fee is R100.
Participants from all over the country can register at www.virtualrun.co.za to run, walk or jog five or 10km from any chosen location.
Competitors will be able to submit results after the race by sharing data from their specific tracking apps on smart devices like a health watch.
All racers will also receive a virtual medal and certificate.
One lucky participant will also walk away with a stunning fire pit worth R2 500.
When participating in the virtual race #series2, your name will be entered into a draw.
Insimbi’s virtual race is part of a series and will be held once a month with the aim of raising funds as the lockdown had a dire impact on the organisation’s finances. The third series can be completed from September 1 to September 30.
The idea of a virtual run was conceived by local businesswoman and ambassador of the Insimbi Legacy Projects Sharon Janse van Rensburg, who explained they are delighted about the response they received during the first series.
“The first virtual race was successful beyond expectations. We received entries from all over the world,” the ambassador said.
She said the Run For a Cause was so effective that we also decided to hold Event Run/Walk Three (actual run) on September 13 at 9am in the vicinity of Springs Mall.
“The entry fee is R120 and participants will receive a medal and goody bag. It’s really a nice venue.”
Janse van Resburg said Insimbi is also urging the community to participate in SPAR’s Virtual Women’s Challenge on September 26.
“SPAR’s virtual race will bring hope to gender-based violence survivors and we support the initiative. Insimbi is against violence. We’re also inviting the public to run with some of our teams that are based in Springs and Limpopo,” she said.
Carmela Lattanzi started the project to involve the public in the fight against poaching after one of her widely admired rhinos, Insimbi, was killed in 2014.
