Pensioner (85) tied up during house robbery in Norton Home Estate

The robbers gained entry into the house by breaking the burglar bars on one of the windows

A 83-year-old woman was tied up during a house robbery today (August 17) in Norton Home Estate, at around 1.45am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said according to the victim she was woken up by three men in her bedroom.

“One of the robbers was armed with a firearm. They threatened her and demanded money,” said Sekele. “The robbers tied her up and searched her bedroom. They found a wall safe, which they removed with a crowbar.”

The robbers gained entry into the house by breaking the burglar bars on one of the windows.

They fled with the safe that contained an undisclosed amount of money along with two passports, a television, cellphone and jewellery.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
