Limpopo motorist assaulted, robbed, raped in Golden Drive

The suspects threatened her to disclose her bank card pin number then took her car to go draw money, leaving her at the site, tied up, with the other suspect

The Benoni SAPS has again issued a warning to motorists to be vigilant on Snake Road near Golden Drive as it is a crime hotspot.

This comes after a 48-year-old woman was raped and assaulted on July 25 by three men.

The woman was trying to make a u-turn after she realised the road was inaccessible due to the sinkhole on Golden Drive.

SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the woman was from Limpopo.

“In the process of reversing, three armed men approached her. They ordered her out of the vehicle,  assaulted her and stole her cellphone and purse,” said Sekele. “The suspects threatened her to disclose her bank card pin number. She obliged and two of them got into the vehicle to take her to withdraw money, leaving her at the site tied up, with the other suspect.

“When the two returned from withdrawing money, one of them raped the woman and they then threw her car keys into the bushes,” she said.

The victim flagged down a motorist who took her to hospital.

A case of hijacking and rape was open at the Benoni Police Station.

The spokesperson warns the community to be also vigilant when driving on the N12, especially at Snake Road and Putfontein off-ramps, and to be extremely cautious should their vehicle break down in these areas.

“We are advising motorists not to accept help from strangers. Rather call a friend, family or someone they know immediately and always be visible to other motorists,” she said.
