21 new buses added to the metro’s fleet

The Ekurhuleni metro has added 21 new buses to their fleet.

The new buses, manufactured to conform to the modern world environmental standards, will provide additional capacity to the Harambee buses that are serving the Thembisa and OR Tambo International Airport route.

Furthermore, they will cover the entire City, including parts of Joburg like Sunnyridge, Randburg, Cresta, and Rivonia.

Other areas in Ekurhuleni that will be covered by the buses include Spruitview, Palm Ridge, Katlehong, Reiger Park, Eastfield, Isando, Leondale, Phumula, Oosterkruin, Buhle Park, Meadowbrook, Spartan, and Primrose.

The metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said an amount of R60-million has been spent in the acquisition of the buses, and they will replace the metro?s aging bus fleet.

The procurement of the additional 21 buses is in line with the City’s goal to invest in public transport to transform the townships’ accessibility and economy.
