Rynpark resident celebrates her 100th birthday

Daphne lives in Frailcare Protea in Rynpark 1 and has been a resident for the past 15 years plus.

 A milestone was celebrated at Rynpark Association for the Aged in Rynfield when one of their residents, Daphne Blair, turned 100 years old on May 28.

Born in Johannesburg in 1920, and an only child, she became a knitter and still loves knitting.

She married William McGill Blair on June 6, 1942, and had two sons, Douglas McGill and Richard Haig.She was confirmed in Brakpan in 1939 and to this day she is a member of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Benoni.

She is also an accomplished flower arranger and volunteered at helping the church in any way she could.

Douglas married Maureen Mansfield in 1969 and they have two daughters who are also married.

From this branch of the family there are four great-grand-children.

Richard is married to Tuk in Thailand and has a daughter and son from a previous marriage to Pam McCartney.

Bill and Daphne enjoyed wonderful holidays together in their married life and Bill was a general manager at Randfontein Estates Gold Mine.

Daphne was required to do a lot of entertaining during this time, which she did with charm and grace. Asked how it feels to be a 100, she said the same as yesterday!

Management and residents at Rynpark said she has a positive, soft nature and lives her life smiling and with grace. She lives her life to the fullest.
