Man (44) sentenced to 15 years for tempering with essential infrastructure

The 44-year-old was found digging a feeder cable near the Sentra Rand diesel yard by security personnel who then alerted the police.

 Jerry Sigauke was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for tampering with essential infrastructure and two years for being in the country illegally on May 25 at the Benoni Regional Court.

He was then handed to the Putfontein SAPS by the guards on May 4, 2019.

Spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said Sigauke was found in possession of various tools that he used to dig out the cable.

The case was assigned to Det Const Vusi Masango for investigation.

Ubisi said Masango did a sterling job in gathering all the necessary information needed for the prosecution of the suspect.

Station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane thanked the investigating officer for his meticulous job in handling the case.

He said the harsh sentence meted out to the suspect will serve as a warning to other criminals who were thinking of committing the similar offence.
