NUPSAW wants Far East Rand Hospital closed for decontamination

Mokoe went says they would be talking to the Department of Health and Department of Employment and Labour regarding their concerns about the hospital.

The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) has revealed their unhappiness with Far East Rand Hospital’s handling of alleged Covid-19 cases at the hospital.

They have set forward a list of demands with regards the protection and testing of both healthcare workers and support staff.

“Our picket outside the Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) yesterday was the latest escalation in a series of growing tensions between healthcare workers across the hospital.

“NUPSAW is advocating that the hospital be closed with immediate effect for deep-cleaning and provide improved Covid-19 protection, in terms of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), to staff.

“We are also asking for more transparency between management and healthcare workers with regards to positive cases of the virus at the hospital,” says spokesperson for the union Kagiso Mokoe.

Mokoe says they will be talking to the Department of Health and Department of Employment and Labour regarding their concerns about the hospital.

The Addie is looking into the allegations made by the union, about the hospital, and will carry the full story once we received comment from all the parties concerned.
