Two arrested for business robbery in Daveyton

A case of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at the Daveyton Police Station.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, were arrested shortly after a business robbery on June 1 at Gule Street in Daveyton.

Ekurhuleni Central spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the Daveyton SAPS members on patrol arrested the men.

“It is alleged that the tuck shop owner was about to open his shop when he was attacked at gunpoint by two men, who then pushed him inside,” said Sekele.

“They then assaulted him with a firearm.”

They took an undisclosed amount of money, airtime, and a cellphone.

Sekele said the patrolling officers chased after the robbers.

“One of the alleged suspects took out a firearm and pointed it at the officers. They officers opened fire and both men were shot in the upper body,” she said.

Both men were arrested and taken to a local hospital under police guard.
