GBCW welcomes new senior social worker

He holds an Honours Degree in Social Work that he completed at the University of Limpopo in 2015.`

Israel Sekgale was recently appointed as the senior social worker at The Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW).

The 27-year-old currently resides in Daveyton and has been working for the GBCW since 2018 and had previously worked as a social worker in Mpumalanga.

He then proceeded to register for the Masters in Social Work in 2017 and graduated in 2018.

Sekgale said his research for the master’s degree was focused on the phenomenon of absent fathers.

“I co-authored an academic article that was published in 2019 in the international journals with the University of Malaysia, the article focused on the socioeconomic impacts of absent fathers on single mothers.

“In January 2019 I registered a National Diploma in Corrections Management with UNISA, but only completed two modules then dropped the course to some financial struggles at that moment.”

He added that from March 2020 he registered for a doctor’s degree in Philosophy with the University of Limpopo, that is purely research-based.

As the senior social worker he will be responsible for the management of the social work staff, provide guidance and assistance to the social work team from service provision, to implementing services, participate and contribute towards the planning, formulation and implementing services

“I feel excited and grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills in social work and now in the management position to lead the team.

“I am hoping to deliver my duties as expected,” he said.
