The programme started on April 7, and they are aiming to continue with this initiative until the end of lockdown and beyond if necessary.

The ANC branch in ward 29 under Councillor Imtiaz Loonat started a food parcel distribution programme in their ward to support their community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The programme started on April 7, and they are aiming to continue with this initiative until the end of lockdown and beyond if necessary.

The branch has thus far distributed more than 800 hampers in their ward.

According Loonat, the food parcels were necessary because in their ward, there are underprivileged residents and the lockdown has not been friendly to them.

We need to inform the public that the parcels were bought by us, from the funds raised through ANC members and generous donors, not from the government resources.

The donations were mainly for ward 29 because it is the branch that started this initiative. However, they also donated 100 parcels to ward 30.

“We would like to thank all our donors and sponsors namely, Broadway Sweets, Adamjee, the Loonat family, Naaza Security and members of the ANC ward 29, “he said.
