More arrested for contravening the Disaster Management Act

Investigations continue in all cases.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers have wasted no time in arresting those contravening the Disaster Management Act regulations.

The squad recently made 29 arrests, and then arrested a further 15 suspects and recovered four vehicles.

“Officers arrested 11 for contravening Disaster Management Act regulations around Daveyton and Benoni, with two facing additional charges when they were found in possession of nyaope (heroine) and crystal methamphetamine,” said BFS WO Grant Giblin.

Officers also received a complaint on High Road, Bredell, of a fruit and vegetable spaza shop selling cigarettes.

Upon raiding the shop, officers confiscated 47 cartons of cigarettes, R40 000 and arrested three suspects.

The officers also followed up information leading to Ehlanzeni Hostel, Thembisa.

“Officers found loose dagga in black bags as well as packed in small bank bags,” Giblin explained.

A suspect was arrested immediately and the dagga confiscated, which weighed just under 800g. R4 150 was also confiscated on the scene and booked in at the police station.

In further policing, four abandoned hijacked vehicles were recovered – a white Ford Ranger in bushes at Etwatwa reported at Etwatwa, a white Nissan NP200 at Esangweni Section, Thembisa, reported at Thembisa, a gold Volvo in Bez Valley reported at Cleveland and a red Daihatsu Terios in Maokeng Section, Thembisa, reported at Kempton Park.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 40 years, will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts to face charges of possession of drugs, dealing in drugs and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
