Foundation continues to leave a legacy during Covid-19

The Lazarus Legacy Foundation (LLF) and Siloam Word of Truth in Brakpan recently distributed 200 food hampers to two old age homes and to families that were identified as priority.

In addition, 300 food hampers were distributed in the Brakpan and Benoni (Actonville) area to families in need.

Kivasha Moodley of LLF explained the organisation was established by Bishop DA Lazarus and his family in 2016 for the purpose of leaving a lasting legacy.

The foundation is based in Dalpark, Brakpan, and they do most of their work in communities in Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan and Springs.

“The vision that Bishop has for the Foundation is for the upliftment of our local communities in the areas of health and education,” she said.

“To date the foundation has launched a mobile clinic unit, which comprises of both dental and primary health care.

“LLF uses the mobile to help the department of health and the Ekhurhuleni metro with projects in townships and informal settlements.

“We are also in the process of using the mobile clinic for Covid 19 testing to help flatten the curve.”

A Saturday school was opened in August 2016 to help scholars from Grade Eight to 12 with extra classes in a safe and conducive environment.

The idea behind this was to give all learners the opportunity receive support and to date the foundation has maintained a 99 per cent to 100 per cent pass rate.

“We are busy with food hamper projects to help people get by without having to worry about where their next meal comes from, especially during this pandemic,” Moodley said. “We are so grateful for the support we have received for this ongoing project but we would also like to branch out to include the collection of secondhand clothing and blankets for the needy as winter is creeping in. These clothing items and blankets will be distributed to the homeless that are being temporarily housed at our local town halls.”

The next food hamper drive will take place in the middle of May with a target of 200 food hampers to be distributed.
LLF is calling on other organisations and companies to assist with sponsors and donations towards the food hamper drive.

Moodley said the foundation will continue doing as much as it can to help those who cannot help themselves right now

“We are in this together as a nation and we will get through this together as a nation.

“To all of our sponsors, Mother Teresa once said that ‘if you can’t feed a hundred then feed just one’ and those words are truly profound because no one can do this on their own.
