Melanie started off in February by hosting fund-raisers and raising money doing her weight-loss challenge, praying she would reach the set amount in time.

Melanie Timm, Connor Timm’s dedicated mom, has decided to do a lockdown challenge.

She originally started a weight-loss challenge in aid of her son, who was one of the chosen karate students to travel to Red Hook, New York, to compete in the International World Championships with his Rynfield dojo, which was set to take place on July 2 and 3.

By March, due to Covid-19 and the lockdown initiated, the international championship was postponed to next year.

Leaving the Timms and many others disappointed but understanding of the situation. Melanie, however, refused to give up.

“Too me, this is in a way a blessing. I am not going to stop raising money for my son because all this means is I now have extra time to raise the money for him to go next year,” said Melanie.

“R100 000 is a lot of money, and now with the extended time I have I can keep my weight-loss challenge going from the comfort of my own home and keep pushing for Connor.

“I am coming up to the last month of my weight-loss challenge and it has been quite a journey.

“With Covid-19 and now the lockdown, I have had limited access to the gym and unlimited access to my fridge, so I have had to be creative as my will power was and still is certainly being tested.

“Thanks to Leandri de Beer, from Adventure Boot Camp Benoni, I got the boost needed to push through the final stretch.

“We receive daily workouts, instructional videos and have some amazing ladies all on one WhatsApp group motivating and inspiring each other daily.

“My challenge ends at the end of April.

“Whatever you do Benoni, keep pushing yourselves. We can do this.
