Several arrested for various crimes during lockdown

Investigation continues in all cases.

During the lockdown period, the Benoni Flying Squad officers have arrested 15 suspects for various crimes.

“The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers arrested 15 suspects, recovered two motor vehicles, two trailers and one firearm,” said BFS spokesperson W/O Grant Giblin.

“With lockdown in place, persons busy with suspicious behaviour, roaming around and criminal activities are easier to spot.

“This led to the arrest of 11 suspects for drinking in public, possession of drugs (crystal methamphetamine and heroine), possession of stolen copper, possession of a dangerous weapon (knife) and trespassing.

“The arrests took place at Madala Hostel in Alexandra; Snake Road corner N12 in Benoni, Blake Street in Farrarmere, Benoni and Prince George corner Voortrekker Road in Brakpan.”

Giblin said in Etwatwa officers responded to a complaint and arrested one for attempted murder and confiscated a Taurus pistol with nine live rounds of ammunition at Extension 24.

“A separate incident in Barcelona squatter camp led to the arrest of two after a business robbery,” said Giblin.

“At Basothong Hostel, Vosloorus, a suspect was found in possession of rocks (cocaine). He was arrested immediately and the drugs confiscated.

“The two vehicles recovered are a grey Hyundai i10 at Michael Street, Centurion, taken in a house robbery on a Mooinooi case and a white MAN truck with two trailers at Third Road, Bredell hijacked at N12 and Bapsfontein off-ramp.”

The suspects, aged 21 to 36 years, will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of possession of drugs, attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of stolen goods, possession of dangerous weapon and trespassing.
