Golfer feeling frustrated

Benoni residents Kerri Huntington and Jason Eales are maintaining their fitness during the Lockdown.

Taking a look at how Benoni’s sporting community is doing during the lockdown, the City Times has some feedback:

Benoni resident and former Benoni High learner Jason Eales is frustrated but understanding, while trying to maintain his golf and fitness levels from home.

He has a Bull Terrier around to distract his training, and has a decent-sized backyard to practice his golf. Keeping up his fitness is proving simpler than he thought.

“Golf, for a lot of people, is a stress reliever,” said Eales.

“Whether you’ve had a hard week at work or your better half is being difficult, go play golf.

“Not being able to play golf with mates or be with your golf school and not being able to relax after a day of golf, is very frustrating.

“There is guaranteed happiness after a game of golf, whether you shooting 72 or 92.

“You always go home happy.

“But I am happy with what I do have, which is my garden and my training equipment.

“The lockdown won’t stop me from what I love to do.”

Glynwood Hospital *employee and pacemaker athlete Kerri Huntington is making the most of her time during this lockdown, despite the challenges that arise.

“This time has been so challenging but also a big eye opener in how close the Crossfit and fitness industry has become,” said Huntington.

“I have been working through the Lockdown.

“Getting home in the evenings, you see few people skipping on their balcony or outside in their garden, making time to stay fit over this period.

“When I get home in the evenings, I change into my training gear and have already planned a programme during the day, which consists of five different exercises, with five to 10 reps and 10 rounds, followed by five different ab exercises (100 of each) and 1 000 skips.

“I have a pull-up bar and always do my Pilates.

“I am not able to do cardio due to lack of space, but skipping is a good form of cardio to keep the heart rate up

“We have to use this time to do whatever we can to stay fit and eat healthily where possible, but one thing is for sure, you come to appreciate everything around you so much more when it’s taken away.

“Self-discipline and routine is so important through this time.”
