#Covid-19: Benoni’s Profix Scaffolding Marathon cancelled, club provides options for those who have entered

Benoni Northerns Athletics Club (BNAC) has cancelled the Profix Scaffolding Marathon, scheduled to take place on April 26.

Race organiser Julie Dekker, of BNAC, said the safety of participants, marshals, volunteers, supporters and the general public is of utmost concern.

As we all know, the presidency announced the National State of Disaster in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“While the prohibition on gatherings of more than 100 people is in place until April 15, based on the trajectory of the disease elsewhere in the world and the actions that the global community has had to take in an effort to curb this pandemic, we must be realistic that this could be extended.

“Watching events unfolding globally, we can expect that things will worsen before they get better and those restrictions on gatherings will continue,” Dekker said.

She said the organisers of the Profix Scaffolding Marathon acknowledge the disappointment this decision will invoke for participants, volunteers, vendors, sponsors and other parties involved, adding BNAC shares in this disappointment.

“While this has not been an easy decision to make, we must place the well-being of our participants and our community at the forefront of our decisions,” she said.

There are three options if you have already entered the 2020 Profix Scaffolding Marathon:

• You can get a refund within a defined period. Note that this would exclude the transaction cost paid when you entered the race and will also carry an additional transaction cost. Details on the refund process will be communicated directly to entrants in due course. Please be patient in this regard.

• You can keep your entry for the same distance for the 2021 edition of the Profix Scaffolding Marathon (upgrades will be treated as a new entry with full payment).

• You can donate your entry fee money to the nominated event charities.

“We regret the disappointment and inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and compassion.

“We would like to thank the individuals and businesses that have supported BNAC with various aspects of organising and marketing the 2020 event.

“This includes our main sponsor, Profix Scaffolding, as well as the Benoni City Times, our suppliers and the sponsors of our water points.

“We look forward to staging an exceptional event next year,” Dekker concluded.
