According to Anne Powell, from the security provider, Jacques Fourie went for a medical check-up today (January 30) and a doctor stated his sight is perfect.

“Jacques reacted quickly by washing his eyes with water after he killed the snake.

“Thankfully he has received the all-clear and no permanent damage was done,” she said.

Fourie responded to a panic activation at the business premises at about 5.30pm.

He found a rinkhals which had partially sailed under a car in the parking area.

He tried to get the snake out with a broom, but the reptile reacted and spat venom at Fourie, hitting him in the eyes.

Despite being in severe pain and unable to see properly, the response officer pinned the snake down with the broom and trampled its head until it was dead.

Fourie will resume duty this weekend.
