Rynsoord park not usable because of long grass

The park, which opened in September 2019, was fenced off to keep zama zamas (illegal miners) away from the residential areas.

Ward 73 Clr Sinethemba Matiwane says residents of Rynsoord want the Ekurhuleni metro to make the area they are living in presentable.

The City Times visited a park on the corner of Aletta and Sophia streets in Rynsoord.

The long grass near the play, gym and braai equipment has resulted in residents being unable to use the facility.

A delayed Ekurhuleni metro grass-cutting schedule was cited as the primary reason for the uncut grass.

“The residents here take care of the park,” said Matiwane.

“The problem is the council is not doing a thorough job.

“They have used the big tractor-like lawnmower to cut the long grass along the edge of the park, but the grass around the play and gym equipment remains.

“Handheld equipment is needed for cutting this grass.

“Overall, the community needs the grass to be cut, trees to be pruned and for potholes to be filled.”
