Two wanted for Mayfield business robbery

The robbers fled on foot and no arrests have been made.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Putfontein SAPS after a tavern in Mayfield Extension Five was robbed on January 13.

Spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said it is alleged that two men pretending to be customers went into the business to buy alcohol.

“One of the men bought one beer from the woman who was alone at the tavern. As she was about to give them him his change the other man pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her,” said Ubisi.

“She was then assaulted by the robbers on the head with a hammer.”

Ubisi said the robbers then went to one of the rooms, opened the safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone.

No shot were fired and the woman sustained minor injuries.

The robbers fled on foot and no arrests have been made.
