FOLLOW-UP: Donations made for toddler diagnosed with a rare condition

Herman also has dysmorphic features, global developmental delay and behavioural concerns.

Northmead resident Joan Joubert said she was grateful for the contributions made by readers following an article published in the City Times the November 22 edition regarding her toddler Herman.

As reported previously, Herman was diagnosed with a rare condition due to an imbalance in one of his chromosome twos.

Herman also has dysmorphic features, global developmental delay and behavioural concerns.

“We confirmed that he also has a form of epilepsy which he will now receive medication for as this can at any time result in a full convulsion,” said Joan.

“For now he is getting little convulsions, they exhaust him extremely and make him very moody, again another unexpected blow to what we are already going through.

“There were two people who did respond to the article and, with the help from my mother-in-law, I finished all the bills that we had behind.

“It would be great if more people would have such open hearts and I will thank them over and over.

“I also had a lady who gave me advice as she couldn’t contribute. To me that was a contribution, as we cannot always be strong and we don’t always understand the situations we are placed in.

“We have been emailing, messaging and doing everything just to try and get to some form of a fund-raiser going as we need the word to get out for others to be aware of this type of illness, and maybe someone else has some more information that they can help us with.

“Herman is still not walking, and therapists are fully booked until next year.

“We still need to pay for his follow-up visit, and the assessments by the therapist.

“I just want a stress-free and struggle-free Christmas for my family.”

To offer assistance, Joan can be contacted on 079 878 6346.
