Man (32) arrested in connection with double murder

The motive of the killing is unknown.

A 32-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of two sisters in Mayfield Extension One in Putfontein on November 21.

Within 72 hours, the man was arrested by the Putfontein detectives team in Warden, Free State, on November 22.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said the two sisters, believed to be in their 20s, were found lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds inside a shack.

“One of the sister’s had her hands and legs tied and her mouth was closed with a cloth,” said Ubisi.

The motive of the killing is unknown.

Station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane said the killing of women sparked a public outcry, and has prompted South Africans from all walks of life to take a stand and call for more decisive action from the government.

“The killing of women has become a regular occurrence in our society, and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Mathiane.

“The gruesome murder of innocent lives is disheartening, the abuse of women and killings should never happen.”

The man is expected to appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court today.

Mathiane commended the detectives for their hard work and dedication in tracing the suspect.
